The Accessible Gang of Cats

A Kitty Cat Picture

Meow! My furry paws are only good for chasing a mouse, not using one.

So, to make navigating this site easier for me, I had my Pet Webmaster make this site accessible for the gang and me. It sure is easy on my paws. :) Master Tiny

Access Keys

For Windows Internet Explorer and Mozilla FireFox, press Alt Key + Access Key Number to reach the access key target page.

For Macintosh systems, use the Ctrl Key + Access Key Number to reach the access key target page.

Unfortunately, Opera does not have accesskey support when it is coded into a site's HTML.

The following legend illustrates the keyboard's numeric keys assigned as access keys for the Gang of Cats' website.

Standards Compliance

All pages validate as Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict. They use structured semantic markup.

We validate our accessibilty design using a web content accessibility validation tool provided by Cynthia.

These are related to Section 508 Standards and the Web Content Accessibilty Guidelines or WCAG for short.

These standards and guidelines are furnished by the Section 508 Organization and the World Wide Web Consortion a.k.a (W3C).

Links

Wherever you see a link, there is a "TITLE" attribute. This is so you can have a better idea of where it will take you. This helps if you are using a text based browser or a voiced browser.

Whenever links are used in the content text area of a page, they are clearly distinguishable from normal text.

Our links always presented like this: content link.

Tables and Forms

Whenever a table is used, it will have a table header, summary and attribute. Headers for rows and columns will be used to better represent textually and aurally their signficance and to separate them from the data.

In the case of forms, we make sure there are legends in place, and the input fields are labeled. All so you can tell what needs to go where.

The fields are also tab indexed, so using your keyboard will be much easier when navigating a form.

Why Accessible?

I know that I am a super-cat who possesses incredible physical prowess and a mind-numbing intellect, but I have limitations too.

Tiny and a Keyboard

With that in mind, I wanted my web site to be accessible for those people and myself who face limitations in our ability to use computers.

These limitations restrict our opportunity to access a web site's resources and content, whereas a person who is fully capable [i.e. without handicap] can easily grasp the content and navigation flow within a web site.

So, it is my wish to have an accessible web site because two paws do not make for a fast typist and the computer mouse is left for me to chase and knock over.

Improvments

Feel free to contact us as we are always trying to keep our site working, accessible, informative and entertaining. "Meow"
